Vatiswa was born and raised in Mdantsane, a township in EL. I completed my BA honours degree at the University of the Western Cape, majoring in Psychology and Community development. I am passionate about education and youth development as a whole especially for young people coming from disadvantaged areas. Having worked in the NGO sector for 9 years providing Psychosocial support, mentoring, counselling, career guidance and coaching to High school and University students has honed my people skills and love for young people. Being the charismatics person that I am, I still feel I am called to serve a greater purpose in life. I still want to pursue Postgraduate studies in Education and further expand my knowledge in developing more developmental and educational programmes to improve our education system.

Chuma Sopotela is a visionary South African artist and cultural worker who weaves together theatre, dance, music, and performance art to craft experiences that inspire, heal, and mobilize. Her creative practice is guided by a profound commitment to social justice, particularly in the pursuit of gender equality, and informed by her lifelong activism, which began with her work as an HIV/AIDS activist in high school with the Treatment Action Campaign. Chuma's artistic philosophy is rooted in the belief that art can change the world. She envisions her work as a symphony of movement, voice, and emotion, where every element is integral to the musical score giving life.This holistic approach allows her to transcend genres and cultural boundaries. Through her work, Chuma seeks to create a sense of connectivity and community, fostering empathy and understanding among audiences and participants. She is drawn to exploring themes of memory, spirit, and the human condition, often incorporating elements of her own experiences and cultural heritage. As a dedicated educator and mentor, Chuma is passionate about empowering the next generation of artists and change-makers. Her own educational journey has been marked by numerous milestones, including being the first black woman to receive the Fleur du Cap Award for Best Female Performer and the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Performance Art. Chuma's vision for a more just and equitable world is unwavering. She dreams of a reality where individuals can move freely, unencumbered by systemic oppression or societal expectations. Through her art, she invites all to join her in this dream, to collectively envision and work towards a brighter future.
